By dedicating itself to identifying and nurturing talented youth, the bank has become a catalyst for positive change. Federal Bank is extending its support to aspiring debaters and musicians through many initiatives like partnerships, sponsorships, and events. The bank is already conducting a wide range of groundbreaking CSR activities that are empowering people and helping them to become self-reliant and independent individuals. Two novel initiatives undertaken by the Bank are the "Speak For India" - a debate contest for youth, and "The Times Thyagaraja Awards"- a music contest to find and honour the best singer in Carnatic music.
Speak For India
The "Speak For India" initiative by Federal Bank was launched in 2014 by the Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation, in collaboration with The Times of India Group. This transformative initiative has had a profound impact on the youth. This CSR activity was designed to enhance critical thinking and public speaking skills and develop leadership qualities among the talented youth. Speak For India is a debate contest that empowers the youth to express their opinions, views, and ideas on the changes they wish to see in the country and to make noteworthy contributions. The Speak For India Debate Contest is held in Delhi-NCR, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.
The Times Thyagaraja Awards
In 2012, the talent hunt - Times Thayagaraga contest was organised to identify and honour the best talented amateur Carnatic singer at the Marghazhi music season. The program began in a small way in 2012 and now grows yearly with many candidate nominations from sabhas. The event also boasts celebrity concerts at big venues like the Music Academy. Great Carnatic music legends like Sudha Ragunathan, L. Subramaniam, Ranjani-Gayathri, Aruna Sairam, and the late Balamuralikrishna have rendered mesmerising performances at the Awards programme.
The 13th edition of the Times Thyagaraja talent contest started in the first week of December 2023. An expert panel of judges chose the best candidates after the auditions held between December 19 and December 23. The grand finale will be held on 20 January 2024 at the Music Academy, where the top candidates will fight it out for the main title. The winners can perform with legends at the Music Academy and win gold prizes worth ₹2 lakhs.
